BREAKING NEWS: Democrat Congressman Gil Cisneros Out-Raised by Young Kim in CA-39

Young Kim’s Growing List of Local Endorsements & Strong Fundraising Numbers Makes CA-39 a Top House Republican Pick-Up Opportunity Against Vulnerable Gil Cisneros

Fullerton, CA– Yesterday, financial disclosure reports released by the Federal Election Commission showed that former State Assemblywoman Young Kim out-raised incumbent Democrat Congressman Gil Cisneros in the 2nd quarter covering April 1 to June 30.

Young Kim reported raising an impressive $401,276 and ending with a strong $381,814 cash-on-hand in her first fundraising quarter while incumbent Democrat Gil Cisneros only raised $318,085. Cisneros also reported ending his 2nd fundraising quarter with only $389,943 cash-on-hand, despite starting Q2 with $214,321 cash-on-hand.

Cisneros’ FEC disclosure also shows he accepted $151,309 in contributions from Political Action Committees despite pledging to not accept any PAC or special interest money.

“Gil Cisneros has repeatedly been caught breaking his campaign pledges to the voters of the 39th district,” said Sam Oh, general consultant to the Young Kim for U.S. Congress campaign. “Cisneros is on the record of saying that PAC and special interest money is corrosive to our democracy but that didn’t stop him from taking $151,000 from those very groups he denounced.”

“Cisneros has been caught lying once again, and that’s why Young Kim has been overwhelmed by the support of over 100 local community leaders because people in the 39th district want new leadership that they can believe in and trust,” added Oh.

Last week, a RealClearPolitics story reported a poll commissioned by the National Republican Congressional Committee that showed Democrat Gil Cisneros trailing an unnamed Republican by 2% (46% to 44%). The poll also showed Cisneros with a 34% favorable rating and 30% unfavorable rating.

California’s 39th congressional district overlaps portions of Orange, Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties and includes the cities and communities of Anaheim Hills, Brea, Buena Park, Fullerton, La Habra, Placentia, Yorba Linda, Diamond Bar, Hacienda Heights, La Habra Heights, Rowland Heights, Walnut, and Chino Hills.
