National Republican Congressional Committee Elevates Young Kim to Young Gun Contender Status

Kim’s Strong Campaign Lands Increased Recognition from NRCC

Fullerton, CA – The National Republican Congressional Committee announced their slate of Young Gun “Contenders,” which included former Assemblywoman Young Kim. Kim joins 35 Republicans nationwide on the NRCC’s first round of candidates who have reached the increased recognition.

The NRCC Young Guns program was created in 2008 to better formalize the Committee’s support of candidates who are building strong campaigns with a clear path to victory. The “Contender” level is the second of three benchmarks that campaigns can achieve. The status is earned through completing stringent program metrics that prove a campaign is on the path to developing a mature and competitive campaign operation. To receive recognition, a campaign has to meet rigorous benchmarks including fundraising goals, a strong campaign infrastructure, and a clear, competitive campaign plan.

“Young Kim is one of the strongest Republican candidates in the country and she is working tirelessly to build a winning campaign,” stated Sam Oh, general consultant to the Kim campaign. “National Republicans know that Young has what it takes to win back this seat and help Republicans retake the House.”

“These hardworking candidates have proven their ability to run strong, competitive campaign operations,” said House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy in the press announcement. “We’re going to ensure these contenders are victorious in November by forcing their Democratic opponents to own their party’s radical socialist agenda.”

To close out 2019, Kim outraised her opponent, Democrat Gil Cisneros, raising $489,360 in the final quarter, to his $409,718. Kim also ended the year with more cash-on-hand than her opponent, and has raised over $1.5 million to date. Kim’s campaign also earned the early endorsements of House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy, the California Republican Party, and the Republican Party of Orange County, Los Angeles, and San Bernardino counties. Combined with the consolidated local support, Kim has built one of the most formidable campaigns in the country.
